Turku KY’s sections

Six committees operate directly as part of Turku KY, carrying out a large part of the association’s most important activities, ranging from advocacy work on educational and social policy issues to promoting our members’ well-being in their free time through sport and social events. The chairs of the committees also sit on the Turku KY board, ensuring seamless cooperation and the development of student life for our members.

"CIA

CIA TuKY, or the Committee for International Affairs, is the division of Turun KY responsible for international affairs. Did you know that one in three students starting in the autumn is international? Our subcommittee organises events where Finnish students, exchange students and international degree students can get to know each other and build networks and friendships across borders. We also provide information and assistance with exchange and overseas internship matters.

We ensure that international students get to know Finnish student culture, and that you, as new students, can get to know one another regardless of nationality. Throughout the year, we have the Finnish Challenge, sauna evenings, Cottage Weekend and other fun activities in store.

See you soon!

"EVA

The Advocacy Committee, known among friends as EVA, works to ensure that, in addition to Turku KY’s fantastic range of leisure activities, your studies run smoothly and everyday life at university goes without a hitch. Under the leadership of its education and social policy representatives, EVA influences the administrative bodies of the School of Business and makes the students’ voices heard where decisions on matters important to us are made. Whether the issue is unfair course assessments, dreary study spaces or even someone’s inappropriate behaviour, the Student Rights Committee is the right place to raise the matter. We take these issues forward and represent the students’ voice in the fight for a better study environment.

In addition to advocacy work within committees and steering groups, we also aim to make a visible impact on the well-being of the study environment at the School of Business. Throughout the year, EVA organises events and campaigns designed to raise awareness of various important topics, such as the importance of friends and mental health support. This ensures that studying at Turku School of Economics is as enjoyable as possible for everyone. The Advocacy Committee also organises events that are open to everyone, regardless of year group! In recent years, the event calendar has included both familiar traditions and new concepts, ranging from Kaalimato Bingo to Chillis and from Aftere to the True Friend campaign.

Since 2019, EVA’s flagship project has been the Terve Mieli initiative, which aims to create an open atmosphere in our study environment, including regarding mental health issues. Every student can get involved in the Terve Mieli project, and there are plenty of ways to do so, such as signing up to be a support student. There’s always room for new contributors and ideas!

"Kulttis

This is Kulttis.

The Culture Committee offers Turku KY members cultural experiences ranging from escape rooms and black-tie Christmas parties to drag shows and cocktail workshops. We create something new – without forgetting our traditions.

Kulttis organises a wide range of events, such as an archipelago excursion and cocktail-making classes. As a counterpoint to the glitzy atmosphere of the annual ball, Kulttis offers members Rahvixet, where the dress code is ‘no dress code’. These ‘anti-annual celebrations’ are held in the autumn, two days before the annual celebrations. In December, the school premises are taken over by the ‘Pikkumustat’ pre-Christmas party.

Don’t sleep through your chance – stay tuned for Kulttis’ plans! We guarantee unforgettable evenings and memorable moments.

"KY-Sport

KY-Sport is TuKY’s very own sports section, and every TuKY member is very warmly welcome to the more or less serious sporting events it organises.

Since 1980, KY-Sport has been responsible for the physical activity, fitness and fun of students at the Turku School of Economics. The section’s aim is to organise various sports and exercise events as a counterbalance to studying and partying.

Weekly activities and taster sessions

We look after the physical fitness and wellbeing of the whole TuKY community through weekly Park runs and sports sessions, the timetables for which can be found in the TuKY events calendar. Everyone is welcome to join the weekly sessions and runs, regardless of fitness level or skill! You can have a say in the sports played during these sessions via the Facebook group Maanantaipelit.

We also organise the most exotic sports trials every month. In our ‘Sport of the Month’ events, we’ve had the chance to try out everything from underwater football to fencing, not forgetting perennial favourites like paintball and pole dancing.

Teams, CampusSport tournaments and spectator stands

You can play ice hockey, basketball, football, floorball and American football in our university’s colours. Teams and further contact details can be found in the separate sub-menu.

You can also compete in various sports throughout the year in CampusSport tournaments, where the different faculties of the University of Turku battle it out for supremacy in familiar team sports.

Even the most die-hard armchair sports fans won’t be left out of the action, as we set up viewing areas for everything from the Super Bowl to the Ice Hockey World Championships.

An unforgettable sporting celebration

The undisputed highlight of the autumn is the ABPC, or Academic Beer Pong Championship, which we host together with Ulkkis. In these championships, where every student can showcase their speciality, there is great fame and glory to be had, not to mention the coveted trophy.

The whole academic year culminates in the spring with the KYlumposvuori competitions, where the overalls-clad crowd gets to compete for the most spectacular prizes in both Veronkierros and Ekonomiaidot.

In addition to these, the sports calendar includes everything from Park’s FIFA tournaments to hiking and gaming trips abroad.

"NESU-TuKY"

Tsch-tsch tsch-tsch tsch-tsch… Here we go!

NESU (Nordiska Ekonomie Studerandes Union) is an organisation uniting business students across the Nordic countries and Tallinn. Its primary aim is to bring together business students from different countries and cities through various events. The range of events includes numerous sitsit parties, Case Days, NESU Conferences, NESU Day, the legendary Wappurundi and NESU Finland’s summer camp. At these events, you’ll meet new people and have unforgettable experiences. Every business student city in Finland has its own NESU organisation — in Turku, it’s NESU-TuKY.

Every year, NESU organises several academic dinner parties, or sitsit – including the Harkkasitsit held in early autumn, the Vappusitsit in April and the Pikkumustat Pikkujoulusitsit in December. We also organise events such as Pläjäys, trips to other towns and much more. One thing is certain: time never drags in this section’s activities, and there’s plenty to do!

However, NESU’s activities are not limited to sitsit alone. One of the most important events bringing NESU members together is the biannual NESU Conference. Other major events include NESU-Dagen and the traditional Wappurundi in the spring, as well as NESU-Finland’s Kesämöksä in the summer. For more information on the activities and events of NESU Finland and other local branches, visit http://www.nesu.net.

One of the best things about NESU is undoubtedly its close ties with other Nordic countries and business student cities in Finland. The most important event bringing NESU members together is the biannual NESU Conference – more commonly known as SEMMA. Every autumn and spring, the event brings business students together for a week to network and solve business challenges presented by partner companies.

Through NESU, you can network, attend sitsit parties and travel to other towns. Once you get involved with NESU, you’ll soon realise you’ve made a whole host of new, lifelong friends among business students studying in Turku and elsewhere in Finland.

Join NESU’s activities with an open mind – we guarantee you an eventful and incredibly fun time at university!

"Foreign

"You simply couldn’t make these stories up."

Ulkkis’s main mission is to organise unforgettable experiences for you during your studies and to provide a meaningful counterbalance to poring over exam books. Ulkkis is the largest of the sub-committees in terms of activities and organises nearly 20 unique events throughout the year, which leave no one cold or with a dry mouth. We constantly strive to develop our traditional events and create entirely new party concepts, meaning you’ll never experience two nights that are the same with us. We always have a twinkle in our eye in everything we do – there’s never a dull moment!

Our calendar of events for the academic year includes, for example, Sikawappu, the highlight of the May Day season; the slightly more sophisticated Pikkumustat Christmas party; Peiskä, which grows in scale year on year; and so on. We organise both more intimate events exclusively for Turku Business School students and more open events in collaboration with other faculties. For example, we collaborate extensively with Turku’s law students, medical students and Swedish-speaking business students. We also promote interdisciplinary collaboration through the legendary, city-wide ‘Viikon Forte’, to which all Turku students are welcome, regardless of their field of study!
