Us
Turun kauppatieteiden ylioppilaat ry (Turun KY) is the association of business students studying at the Turku School of Economics. The purpose of the association is to act as a link between the students of the Turku School of Economics and to protect their interests at the School of Economics and the Student Union and to offer an unforgettable and colourful student life. The Turku School of Business Students’ Association was founded to continue the activities and traditions of the Student Union of the Turku School of Business after the merger of the Turku School of Business and the University of Turku at the beginning of 2010. Since the merger, Turun KY has continued to be one of the most active and largest student organisations in Turku.
Turun KY is a registered association and its members exercise the highest decision-making power at the association’s meetings, which are held in the autumn and spring, as well as whenever necessary. At the Association’s autumn meeting in November, the Turun KY Board of Directors is elected annually and is responsible for the Association’s activities. The Board is assisted by the employees of Turku KY and several trustees.
Turun KY’s activities
Turun KY’s diverse activities are organised by committees, expert institutions and projects, as well as by operators that are part of Turun KY’s club registry, with the help of persons of trust and other active members of the community. Everyone is welcome to join TuKY and its subordinate actors, regardless of their academic year or previous experience.
The committees are part of the Turku KY and their chairs are members of the TuKY Board. The expert institutions are led by members of the Board and employees. Our operators are various subject and hobby associations that are independently registered associations and have decided to join TuKY’s club registry. Project producers and teams are selected annually through an open call for applications. TuKY’s activities are actively maintained by more than 200 TuKY members each year.

What is Turun KY?
Turun KY or TuKY, was founded in the year 1950 when a group of students from the newly founded Turku School of Economics met to discuss the establishment of a student union. As a result of this meeting, the student union was founded on the 12th of October 1950. The emblem of the union and the current association is formed by the god of commerce Mercury’s caduceus and the gothic letter A from the coat of arms of the city of Turku. Turun KY got its own flag in 1953 and its own legal mark was introduced in 1966. The students of the Turku School of Economics still use the same symbols, differing from other students at the University of Turku.
In the late 1950s, the first-year student’s name “Bunny” was introduced in the Turku School of Economis. In the autumn of 1953, the Student Union was given a 30m² space in the basement of the Aurakatu school building, and the premises were named Monttu because of the slightly dreary location. Monttu got new premises at Rehtorinpellonkatu when the Turku School of Economics moved to its current premises in 1959. Monttu is one of the oldest nightclubs in Finland and it has been in continuous use since the 1950s. After around twenty years of fundraising, in 1984 the Student Union bought a house at Parkinkatu 6. Being in poor condition, the original Parkki was demolished in the early 2000s and the new current Parkki is already in its teens.
At the end of the millennium, the Turku School of Economics discussed a fusion with the University of Turku on a couple of occasions. However, the final fusion took place in 2010, when the Student Union of the Turku School of Economics and the Student Union of the University of Turku merged to form the new Student Union of the University of Turku. Turun KY then continued its activities as an association, officially known as the Association of the Economic Students in Turku. Still the association continued to focus on the most important thing, namely the welfare and advocacy of its members. What distinguishes us from other student associations, is our long history as a student union and the community spirit that has developed over the decades.

Operator groups are associations that serve the members of Turun KY and have achieved operator status by meeting the requirements set by Turun KY. These groups are granted significant benefits to support their activities, such as access to Parkki and the association’s communication channels.
Group of representatives
Turun KY has a representative group – the TSE List – in the Student Union of the University of Turku (TYY), which holds the highest decision-making power in the student union. The activities of our representative group ensure that the voices of Turun KY’s members are also heard in TYY. At the moment, the TSE List holds 7 seats in the council. The TSE List is part of the same electoral alliance as the TYY Terveeksi group and the Lex Group. The next representative council elections will be held in autumn 2025.
Representatives in other bodies
Turun KY also has numerous representatives in other bodies, such as the Board of the Turku School of Economics, TYY’s subcommittees, and Suomen Ekonomiliitto chairperson network. Cooperation with these bodies is one of the most important parts of Turun KY’s activities.

Premises
Bar Monttu
Monttu is the place that will be the scene of the most memorable moments of my student years. We’re not talking about romantic dinners, but the last frosty moments of the evening. For decades, it’s been the place to go to satisfy students’ insatiable appetites for a night out, located on the ground floor of our school.
Monttu is the undisputed jewel of our association. Our A-rated bar serves drinks at student-friendly prices, so no own drinks are allowed. There are parties all year round, and you can get to know the first Monttu parties early in your studies.
Welcome to Monttu – we’ve got the atmosphere, we’ve got the coloured lights!
Parkki
Parkki is Turku KY’s very own clubhouse, where parties, parties, competitions and other events are held. Parkki has become particularly famous as the venue for afterparties. Although the Parkki is also rented out to third parties, it is first and foremost made for the use of TuKY members. Any group of operators is free to use Parkki free of charge, to organise activities and events either in the party room downstairs or in the sauna, living room and meeting rooms upstairs.
The Park is already 40 years old: the Student Union bought the wooden building in 1984. However, years of parties and bacchanals left their mark on the old wooden building, and so in 2006, after serving it well, it was decided to demolish it and build a new, more imposing clubhouse in its place.
