Clubs and committees

Jaostot = Committees = Are the activity groups in the Association of Economics Students in Turku

NESU (The Nordic Economics Students' Union): handles relations with fellow students of economics and business, as well as with companies within the Nordic countries. NESU members take part in conferences in other Nordic countries. Organises several sitz partys.

Kulttis (The Cultural Affairs Committee): provides trips to theaters, museums, concerts, etc. It is a smooth way for you to get into the Finnish cultural life.

Ulkkis (The External Affairs Committee): takes care of public relations with other student organizations. It organizes the biggest parties during the year as well as trips to visit other student unions in Finland.

ESN: Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is a European wide student organisation. Its goal is to support and develop student exchange. It is composed of about 120 local sections working in Higher Education Institutes being organised on a local, national and international level. The aims of ESN are to promote the social and personal integration of the exchange students. The local ESN-sections offer help, guidance and other invaluable information to the exchange students hosted by their university.

ESN Uni Turku organises a wide range of leisure time activities through the academic year. Our aim is to make the new international students feel welcome and to offer them unique Finnish experiences. Our events are open to all internationally minded people! ESN has meetings once a month. Also the exchange students are welcome to participate (then the meeting will be held in English) and plan on the upcoming events.

KY-Sport (The Sporting Committee): provides different sports events.

KY-Media: The main funktion of KY-Media is to publish the magazine of Association of Economics Students in Turku. The magazine is mainly written in Finnish and comes out 4 times a year. Come and join us if you are interested in writing or photographing!

Cantus Mercurialis: Cantus Mercurialis is the  very own choir of Association of Economics Students in Turku. It has been active for over 25 years, performing in Finland as well as in other European (and American!) locations. Our main goals include giving good concerts and keeping up the so called CM Spirit, which basically means having lots of fun together. Join us by coming to our weekly practice session at Mercatori, Mondays at 19.00.

General knowledge

Overalls = Dark blue uniform for members of TuKY. Wear them in the parties, at Wappu and when ever you feel like it.

Sillis = The partybrunch organised the next morning after the Annual Ball of TuKY or after some other hard core party

Sitsit = Sitsparty = An old Nordic tradition of eating and drinking and at the same time praising the wonders of life by singing

Speksi = An interactive comedy with music and dance made by students

Excu = A visit to some firm, cultural event, etc. Usually organised by students associations of TuKY

Pupuinfo = Bunny info = Your chance to get to know the different student associations and clubs of TuKY.

Organized by ESN during both terms

Welcome party: A good chance for you to meet all the new exchange students and tutors in Turku.

Cottage Weekend: You can experience the unique Finnish nature. You get to know everyone and you can also enjoy sauna and a dip into the see.

Taste of Monttu: Each country will cook some traditional dishes of their country and then sell them in small portions. A good opportunity for you to meet some Finnish students and bring the delicious world to them!

Alien Sitz Party: A sitz party especially designed for international students

Happenings during the fall term

Kaupunkisuunnistus = City Orientation Party = This party is organized right before the actual school begins in August. You have to find your way through Turku and take part in some small competition.

Aurasoudut = Aurasoudut, the classic boat race between the three universities in Turku, takes place in September along the Aura-river.

Pupujaiset = Bunny party = Bunnies are the first year students in our school. They have to survive the afternoon activities before participating the party in the evening.

Hämeenkadun appro = Big student beer drinking- festival in fall in Tampere

Wuosijuhlat = The annual ball = TuKY  was founded in 1950 and to celebrate this, an annual ball is organized every October. The festivities include coctail speeches, dinner, main speech, dancing etc. Then it's time for the after party at Monttu. More information: http://www.tuky.fi/vuosijuhlat

PeIsKä = Traditional Big Be Drunk -cruise, organised by Ullkis

PikkujouluPre x-mas parties = Parties starts from November and lasts untill Christmas. Drink lots of glögi! ESN organizes a special x-mas party for international students.

Happenings during the Spring term

Back to school party = What better way to start the semester than with a party.

Pikkulaskiainen = A legendary student party that takes place in Turku every January. The program consists 3 different parts, beginning with a "bar-tourné", followed by the funniest downhill ever and ending with an "afterski-party"

KYlumpialaiset = KYlumpics = KY-Sport's biggest event during the spring term. Dress up funny and compete in the crazy competitions and of course party afterwards!

Wappu = The biggest carnival-style festivity celebrated on April 30 and May 1. Wappu parties usually start a few days before the official wappu. The students celebrate the Spring and usually also the lectures are over by that time. You can see the traditional rowing competition in the river Aura, some speeches etc. Traditionally May 1st is celebrated by a picnic in Vartiovuorenmäki. Exercise

The students of TSE can take part in the sports activities of the Turku University. By paying the sports fee you get a sports sticker on your student card and with that you can participate in various aerobics, circuit training, gym etc. With the sticker you also get discounts in various sport clubs, gyms, swimming pools etc. KY-Sport organises also different sport events.

Monttu = The student cafeteria at TSE's first floor. Also a place for legendary parties.

Parkki = The club house of the student union at Parkinkatu 6.

Patria = The yellow wooden house behind the school building where is the office of the student union.

Akateeminen Hese = Academic Hesburger = The nearest Hesburger to the universities

Assarin ullakko = The nearest student cafeteria after Monttu, opposite to TSE

Kåren = Place for parties, gigs etc. Also a student cafeteria, Hämeenkatu 22

Mercatori = The place to hang out between the lectures drinking coffee. At TSE, first floor.

Student village = Area full of houses for students

Proffan kellari = A student friendly bar in the basement of Yo-talo

YTHS = As members of the student union all students are entitled to student health care services provided by the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS). Against a small fee students can visit the dentist, doctors and get other health care services. More information can be found from FSHS web pages http://www.yths.fi/.

YO-talo = The big building opposite of TSE
